A True Parisian

This week has been crazy and hectic, amazing and beautiful, fun and scary. All-in-all it was a terrific week filled with new experiences and lessons that are teaching me to become more and more integrated into this culture.
I had my other classes: Architecture, and Global Competence, and while all my classes seem fun and interesting they are also going to be a TON of work. Four of my classes have huge projects due at the end of the semester that range from 10-15 pages in length. For Architecture, every Thursday we meet on-site somewhere in the city where we get to experience first hand what we are learning in the books. While this sounds fun and exciting, and is definitely a great way to learn about the history of the city, it is a bit intimidating knowing that I have to find my way through the city to these specific places without the comfort of my roommates or friends.
This week my roommates and I found recipes on Sunday night and then went grocery shopping and bought communal food, and then individual treats. We have been making dinner together every night and just splitting the cost for the food we share. This has proven to be way cheaper, costing us only about 8euro for 3 dinners, whereas dinner anywhere in the city is more than 11euro easy. I have also been making my lunches and taking them to school along with snacks so that I save money that way.
We successfully walked to and from school every single day this week, and on Tuesday I walked home alone and didn't get lost or mugged! Success! I have learned that if you walk assertively, and don't speak English you blend in really well.
On Thursday I walked from school to the Notre Dame (which was only 10 minutes away, good to know for breaks in between classes, or after school fun time) and my Architecture class went and viewed the ancient ruins of Paris which is located under the plaza. The ruins date back to centuries B.C. and I guess is the largest archeological site in the world. It was interesting; however, I was not feeling good at all.
As many of you know I had been diagnosed with mono months before I left, then undiagnosed, then diagnosed again. Well when I woke up Thursday morning my throat was on fire (a good indicator that the mono was flaring up and is my bodies way of telling me that I need to take it easy). I was having a difficult time in my classes and even walking around. I walked home alone from Notre Dame and was just not feeling well at all. The walk took about an hour, but it was nice to walk alone along the seine river.
When I returned home my roommate had waited for me because we were going to go to the cemetery where Jim Morrison is buried considering it's only about 15 minutes from our house. I was too sick to go and so she went exploring without me.
Last night my roommates went out with some other girls from our program, and I made the decision to stay home and sleep (and skype with Max). I slept in this morning and woke up feeling better; however, my nose is still running like crazy!
It's such a gorgeous day outside and all my roommates went out to explore the city on their own, but I decided to stay in and do some homework. It's not that I don't want to go out, it's just that I am not feeling good and tomorrow is our mystery excursion so I would rather feel 100% for that and get over this cold, or whatever my body is thrusting upon me.

Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow and will be able to enjoy where ever we are traveling to!
